Funraisin and District Technologies have created a new technology platform to help charities raise funds. This connects fundraisers with new GPS augmented reality tools.
The intent is to strengthen much needed fundraising income by bridging the gap between virtual and live events, as charities look to entice new supporters in the current and post-covid era.
‘New challenges should cause positive impact, and now participants can run a course with others anywhere in the world, and charity event organisers have new audio, video and augmented reality creative tools to create global experiences.’
Funraisin and District Technologies have joined their technologies together. They claim to offer an industry first plug and play connected fitness based ‘fundraising experience of tomorrow.
The intent is to connect charity runners in a new digital and real-world experience taking activity based fundraising into the future. The global partnership will take what are now seen as very standard ways of fundraising, such as fitness app integration and badges. It will upgrade them to a… ‘new fully engaging and hyper-personalised, location-based experience – including augmented reality medals and filters.’
This new technology will allow charities and their supporters to run and explore specific courses with others. Fundraisers will have access to fundraising tools – whilst also discovering new cities/locations around the world. The platform integrates video, audio, GPS checkpoint locations, virtual rewards, as well as ‘unlockables’ such as augmented reality camera filters.

‘These activity-based, user-generated, content shareables tie back to fundraising pages, live social feeds, leaderboards and more, and it all leads to user experiences that are mirrored both in-app or on desktop. This all results in more control and data for the charity to drive crucial donations and key behavioural elements that will better support non-profits in the event space.’
Keith Williams, CMO of Funraisin, said “We know through the pandemic that human connections, giving back to others and living an active life has become more digital. This is why we have seen the surge of new fitness-based technologies, broadcasting and virtual fundraising bringing new forms of giving.
“As we begin to get back to some new levels of mass gathering events, the need for digital won’t be less important, it will be even more important for us all to advance digital offerings to meet consumers’ needs for deeper connected digital experiences with physical.
“If we thought our sector was under digital pressure before, tomorrow’s giving will be more intense and we are excited about this challenge and how many more charities are coming to us to help solve tomorrow’s giving. We believe technology should solve problems and enable positive change which is why we are pleased to bring a new ‘tomorrows giving’ via our virtual fitness software partnership with district technologies.
Ben Pember, CEO of District Technologies, said “Our aim is to motivate people to be active through engaging virtual experiences. Whether your virtual event is a replacement for or a complement to a physical event, it must offer a compelling customer experience which adds value to people’s lives.
“At District Technologies, this is done by applying the most innovative tech available to customisable white-label app solutions. We are thrilled to offer this to charity organisations around the world, helping to drive the amazing fundraising efforts of their supporters.”
