With coaching experience, established over the years via his Sansego coaching business, Craig Alexander is bringing an athlete performance and commercial perspective to the new triathlon team.

Vespa is looking at a multi-year investment. Starting with a pro team, an age group team is also in the pipeline as well as training centres to be established in key markets, such as Europe and North America.

Eight pro athletes are already signed for year one, with a further raft of athletes to be signed in due course. Pro athletes are being selected based on performances, as well as athlete values and synergy with the Vespa brand.

Craig explained how the new team came about and clarified the team’s objectives going forwards. The discussion also covered areas such as: non-endemic brands getting involved with triathlon, as well as the role of teams within the predominantly solo sport of triathlon.
