Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris picking up steam

The road to the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, scheduled to take place on 17 October, is lined with a number of milestones, starting with the opening of the registration period on Tuesday April 13th.

Organised by A.S.O, the event is joining forces with athletes and future marathon runners to promote an eco-friendly approach. It is also showing its support for the charity PLAY International and launching a series of podcasts to prepare for the marathon.

The Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris was moved from its usual early spring slot to Sunday October 17th, to ‘protect it from cancellation’. As a result, registration for the 2021 edition is opening in April, on A.S.O’s Time To platform.

Runners are being invited to make a pledge to take care of themselves amidst the pandemic, while also protecting the environment and cultivating solidarity with the ‘Green Runner Manifesto’. The event organisers add that the manifesto promotes simple attitudes and behaviours that put the spotlight on solidarity and responsibility.

An initial event, Green Runners Week, took place from April 5-11. From Paris to Tokyo, 71,000 runners got the field of the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris back together to run 42 km in seven days, with over 200 prizes. These included 50 race numbers for the 2021 Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris, which were up for grabs in a Strava Challenge.

The online challenge supported the charity PLAY International through the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris and Schneider Electric Foundation, and donated €1 per runner up to the first 45,000 participants. The non-profit focuses on designing and rolling out learning and inclusion projects for vulnerable children and young people using sport and games as educational tools.

Through their €45,000 donation, the Schneider Electric Foundation and Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris are getting involved in the programme ‘playing, learning and debating’ to promote equal opportunities for all.

Runners who sign up for the Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris will also get the chance to make a donation to the charity PLAY International when reserving their race number and can also contribute to the programme online at www.helloasso.com/associations/play-international.
