Zoggs is launching a new line of sustainable women’s thermal swimwear with a special focus on outdoor swimming. The company adds that its new range has been developed to ‘enhance the outdoor swimming experience through science and colour.’
Designed with performance in mind for wild dippers through to experienced endurance open water swimmers, the new range seeks to compliment the exhilaration of ‘skin swims’ with an added warmth boost around the torso.
By using a patented silver thermal lining, body heat is retained for a claimed 60% longer than conventional swimwear. In almost all water conditions, Zoggs notes that this will be a real benefit, but for swimmers who brave the colder water temperatures this can have a significant effect on their swim experience.
Outdoor swimming is a key growth category for Zoggs; and this collection is based on research with its partner, Her Spirit, a community for women seeking to become healthier and fitter.
The thermal silver lining has one major purpose – heat preservation. The swimsuits are front and back lined giving all round heat retention.
Development was focused on a series of laboratory heat tests using a variety of development fabrics with an infra-red light to simulate the body and the transference of body temperature. The thermal silver lining was found to be the most effective at resisting the heat being lost through the fabric – meaning that the original temperature was retained for longer.
In keeping with all Zoggs Swimwear the new apparel features Ecofeel fabric, which is made from 100% recycled plastic waste (79% Recycled Micro Polyamide and 21% Elastane) for a ‘soft, comfortable fit with durable performance.’
The thermal swimwear is also resistant to chlorine, is antibacterial and offers maximum protection against UV rays (UPF50+).
In addition to its sustainable fabric, an ecological digital printing technique uses less water and eco dye colour, along with the compostable polybag that products are packaged in.
The new thermal swimwear collection includes nine print designs in total, available in sizes 8-22.
There are two costume styles – the Scoopback style and a more performance orientated suit, the Strikeback. Zoggs noted that feedback from consumer testing was that the Scoopback style is favoured for ‘getting the suit off quickly’ whilst the Strikeback is for those looking for added support with freedom of movement in the shoulders.
The first five designs of thermal swimwear will be available from February on Zoggs.com, at a £55 price point. Whilst four further designs launch later in 2022.
