Xtra Mile Events, the organiser of the Wilmslow Triathlon, which takes place on Sunday 13th May 2012, has announced that places for the event are selling fast. Now in its sixth year, the Wilmslow Triathlon is a hugely popular sprint distance triathlon around the leafy town of Wilmslow and the Cheshire plains. Aimed at novices and experienced triathletes alike, this triathlon sells out well in advance.
Wilmslow, much like its neighbour Alderley Edge, is noted for its affluence. It is one of the most expensive and sought-after places to live in the UK outside of central London. The Cheshire town, just south of Manchester in north west England, boasts a selection of designer shops, cafés/restaurants and is the home of multisport retailer Royles. The surrounding area attracts those living the ‘Cheshire lifestyle’, such as the numerous Premiership footballers, actors and business people that live in and around the Wilmslow area.
The Wilmslow Triathlon event starts with a 400m swim in the 5-lane, 25m indoor pool at Wilmslow Leisure Centre. Transition is on the cricket pitch, followed by a picturesque, mainly flat 23.8K cycle ride in the Cheshire countryside through Ashley and Mobberley. The 5.6K run goes out from the leisure centre along mainly quiet, leafy roads around east Wilmslow and is a mostly flat route with some inclines near the River Bollin.
Competitors start in waves, with the first swimmers taking to the water from 07:00. Triathletes of all levels have called the Wilmslow Triathlon ‘the biggest and best sprint triathlon in Greater Manchester and beyond’ in previous years, with the event consistently growing in size and popularity. This event is part of the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series, but competitors are welcome to take part in the Wilmslow Triathlon as a single event.
Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for team entries, including numbered racking, electronic chip timing and an ‘excellent goody bag’. Entries close on 5 May 2012.
