Wahoo Fitness has kick-started the 2024-25 northern hemisphere indoor cycling season with a new ‘Winter With Wahoo’ initiative.
Leading this is a partnership with cycling performance innovator Phil Burt with a collaboration that aims to optimise indoor cycling performance, comfort, and injury prevention for athletes of all levels.
Phil Burt, with over 12 years as Head of Physiotherapy at British Cycling and five years as Consultant Physiotherapist at Team GB/Sky, offers a wealth of experience to the Wahoo team.
Known for his contributions to three Olympic Games and seven Tour de France victories, Wahoo points out that Burt’s expertise will be integral in helping athletes enhance comfort and minimise injury risk during indoor training.
The partnership comes in tandem with the publication of the findings of the newly launched Ergonomic Insight Report, which focuses on optimising rider performance indoors by addressing key challenges such as knee, saddle, and lower back pain.
According to Burt, the key to improving comfort lies in understanding a rider’s ‘bike fit window’ – the range of positions a rider can comfortably maintain. This is influenced by factors such as age, injury history, and body asymmetry.
The Ergonomic Insight Report found that Wahoo’s range of products, including the KICKR MOVE, KICKR CLIMB, KICKR ROLLR and KICKR BIKE, provide tailored solutions for athletes with different fit requirements. The KICKR MOVE, with its forward-backward and lateral motion, helps to reduce pressure on the saddle and alleviates knee pain.
The KICKR ROLLR offers natural lateral movement, reducing saddle sores and encouraging better posture, while the KICKR CLIMB and KICKR BIKE simulates gradient changes to allow varied riding positions that relieve strain on the knees and back.
Phil Burt said “I spent over a decade advising the best cyclists in the world on performance; but so often we achieved that through improved comfort.
“Indoor training provides a huge opportunity for athletes of all abilities but there is a real conversation to be had about the benefits of realism, adjustability and comfort. That’s why I’m pleased to be partnering with Wahoo to feed into their future product innovations, maximising comfort and performance for athletes, but also to help advise athletes on the best products to suit their needs.”
Gareth Joyce, Wahoo CEO, said “Wahoo is focused on providing top-of-the-line products and offerings, addressing the ever-evolving needs of athletes. This new partnership will leverage expert insights and analytics to inform consumers and develop the future of connected fitness.”
