British Triathlon has announced an extension of its long-standing partnership with Swim Smooth, strengthening a commitment to developing triathlon coaching across the UK.
Since 2010, Swim Smooth has provided British Triathlon with coaching education materials; and, a new agreement in 2025 will further enhance athlete learning by providing coaches with access to the Swim Smooth GURU platform.
Access to the GURU platform will help to ensure that British Triathlon coaches benefit from Swim Smooth’s suite of written, video, and presentation materials. These offer insights into freestyle technique, training methodology, and open-water skills.
With the integration of Swim Smooth GURU into British Triathlon’s education framework, the national governing body points out that… ‘coaches will now have an even more structured and accessible learning experience.’
The initiative will launch with a pilot project before expanding to further support British Triathlon’s coach development pathway, ensuring consistency and quality in coaching at all levels of the sport.
Swim Smooth has recently integrated Garmin devices with the Swim Smooth GURU, complementing the existing Apple Watch functionality. This allows triathletes and their coaches to use the devices they already own to access Swim Smooth’s patented Stroke Insights feature.
Stroke Insights enables swimmers to gain deeper awareness of their stroke efficiency, pacing, and rhythm through remote stroke analysis, making elite-level coaching insights more accessible. Coaches can now provide their athletes with tailored guidance, helping them refine their technique and improve performance in both the pool and open water.

From March 3, 2025, coaches signed up to the British Triathlon Foundation, Group and Personal Coach Awards will receive one year’s free access to the ‘Understanding’ level of the Swim Smooth GURU platform through the British Triathlon Learning Hub.
