IRONMAN and local event organiser EVENTSPORT have announced that San Juan, Argentina, will host a new full-distance IRONMAN triathlon and a 5150 Triathlon Series event. The inaugural IRONMAN San Juan triathlon will debut on November 1, 2026.
IRONMAN’s 5150 triathlon brand is an Olympic-distance race, while a full-distance IRONMAN is 226km. The 5150 San Juan triathlon will take place on Friday, October 30, 2026, during the same race weekend.
General registration for the new events is scheduled to open in the coming months.
Joanna Jordan, Vice President – Managing Director of Latin America for The IRONMAN Group, said “San Juan has proven to be a truly attractive destination and following the success of the IRONMAN 70.3 San Juan event, we know that this vibrant community is the perfect location to host a full-distance IRONMAN race in Argentina.
“The exceptional reception that the IRONMAN 70.3 event has received reinforces our belief that San Juan will be an unbeatable location to host a full-distance IRONMAN race while showcasing what this unique region of Argentina has to offer to a global audience.”
The event will feature a 226.2km (140.6-mile) course through the region’s mountain landscapes and vineyards. It will begin with a 3.8km (2.4-mile) swim in the Punta Negra Dam, followed by a 180.2km (112-mile) bike through the valleys and alongside rivers.
The final 42.2km (26.2-mile) run will take athletes through the downtown streets of San Juan, finishing at the Plaza del Bicentenario. The new race will offer age group qualifying slots for the 2027 IRONMAN World Championship race in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.
Martín Antón, Race Director of IRONMAN San Juan and EVENTSPORT, said “Bringing an IRONMAN triathlon back to Argentina is a milestone for our country.
“San Juan offers everything we could hope for – spectacular landscapes, passionate community support, and the full commitment of the local government. We are ready to deliver an unforgettable race that will inspire athletes from across South America and the world.”
