The 2025 Cal Tri LA triathlon is set to take place in Playa del Rey, Los Angeles, CA, on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Organised by Cal Tri Events, the event has attracted over 600 registered athletes representing 20 US states and six countries.
Competitors from Canada, Colombia, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and the United Kingdom will join athletes from across the United States for the event on the coastal course in southern California. Participants range in age from 8 to 83.
An Athletica Swim and Coaching Clinic will be held on the Saturday before the race, with 172 athletes currently registered. This pre-race programme is designed to help participants fine-tune open water techniques and race-day strategy.
The race takes place at Dockweiler State Beach, Los Angeles, CA, and starts at 07:00 PDT.
Distances available include Olympic and Sprint triathlon, runbikerun, swimbike, swimrun, swim, and run events. The course features an ocean swim, a flat bike segment along Vista Del Mar, and a run on the beachfront path.
Cal Tri Events states it has athlete-friendly policies designed to make the sport accessible and transparent. These policies include:
- Free Deferrals, Transfers, and Event Changes: Free race transfers, deferrals, and participant transfers as late as the day before the race.
- All-In Pricing: Registration includes all costs and excludes mandatory insurance schemes.
- Youth and Community Programs: Promoting multisport participation from ages 7+ through youth races, volunteer partnerships, and charity initiatives.
- Safety Standards: Athletes have pre-race access to traffic control plans, water quality reports, and a 25:1 athlete to lifeguard ratio.
