MyWhoosh adds rowing mode to kick-start multi-sport expansion, and adds Custom Workout Builder for runners

MyWhoosh adds rowing mode to further its multi-sport expansion

MyWhoosh, the free-to-use virtual training platform, has released its 5.6 version update, marking a move into the multi-sport space with the introduction of Rowing Mode. This expansion beyond the company’s existing cycling and running features represents the first phase of a long-term strategy for the Abu Dhabi-based entity.

The new mode allows athletes to explore indoor rowing within the MyWhoosh ecosystem for the first time. The initial release includes a dedicated rowing world based on Lake Bled in Slovenia, providing the same immersive virtual environments already used for other disciplines.

At launch, the update supports Concept2 rowers to ensure data accuracy for experienced users. The company has indicated that support for additional rowing hardware models is planned for future releases.

Matt Smithson, Director of Esports & Game Operations at MyWhoosh, said “The introduction of Rowing Mode is a major step in our long-term vision for MyWhoosh. Our goal is to remove barriers between disciplines and give athletes one platform where they can train seriously, whether they’re cyclists, runners, or now rowers.”

This initial phase aims to establish a foundation for the discipline of rowing on the platform. Future updates are expected to introduce structured rowing workouts, competitive racing formats, and advanced performance metrics.

The 5.6 update also introduces a Custom Workout Builder for runners. This tool enables athletes to design structured, interval-based running sessions aligned to personal goals and pacing strategies. The running updates include:

  • Clear interval-based workout creation
  • Improved in-game visualisation of workout structure

To protect competitive integrity, the platform is introducing enhanced Fair Play measures for selected events. For eligible races, active heart rate monitoring is now required, and a brief reconnection window has been implemented to account for temporary signal loss.

MyWhoosh noted that with the introduction of new sport modes, some user avatars may temporarily reset to default, though all earned and purchased items remain secure in a user’s virtual garage.

Founded in 2019, MyWhoosh offers over 730 tailored workout plans and weekly competitive races to an international community of indoor athletes.
