Finnish sports watch brand Suunto has announced the signing of British distance runner Phil Sesemann as a global ambassador. The partnership, which begins for the 2026 season, aligns with Suunto’s strategy to expand its presence in road running alongside its established position in the ultra and trail running sectors.
Sesemann, based in Leeds, UK, enters the 2026 season following a career-best year in 2025, where he moved to fifth on the British marathon all-time list with a time of 2:07:11 at the Valencia Marathon. The 33-year-old recently demonstrated early-season form with a second-place finish at the Bath Half Marathon.
On March 29, 2026, Sesemann competed in the Generali Berlin Half Marathon, finishing 16th in a time of 1:01:21. The performance was part of his strategy to qualify for the World Road Running Championships and serves as a key build-up race for the upcoming London Marathon.
A former junior doctor who now trains full-time, Sesemann is known for a data-driven approach to his training, which he documents for a growing audience on his YouTube channel. His long-term objectives include selection for the Commonwealth Games and a top-10 finish at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Marathon.
Phil Sesemann said “I’m really excited to be joining Suunto at such an important point in my career. Their focus on performance, reliability, and innovation aligns exactly with what I need as I build towards the London Marathon and hopefully some big things ahead of LA 2028. Having the right tools to guide training and racing makes a huge difference at this level.”
Dan Southam, Head of Regional Marketing at Suunto, said “We’re thrilled to welcome Phil to the Suunto family. He represents everything we value as a brand: dedication, intelligence in training, and a relentless drive to improve. We’re excited to step more into the road running scene with this partnership, expanding out from our ultra and trail running routes.
“We’re proud to support Phil on his journey to the London Marathon and beyond and can’t wait to see the role Suunto can play in his training and racing.”
Founded in 1936 by Tuomas Vohlonen, Suunto’s current portfolio includes GPS sports watches such as the Race and Vertical models, designed for high-altitude and endurance environments.
