STYRKR, the UK-based endurance sports nutrition brand, has launched the SIGR Human Performance Lab at its headquarters in Crawley, West Sussex. The facility, which opened commercially this week, aims to replace generic sports nutrition advice with personalised, data-led testing.
According to STYRKR, up to 50% of endurance athletes experience gastrointestinal distress during competition. Furthermore, the company adds that fewer than one in five athletes know their own sweat rate, despite sodium loss varying up to tenfold between individuals.
Research suggests that individualised carbohydrate fuelling can improve endurance performance by 2–8%. To support this, the SIGR Human Performance Lab offers four core testing services:
- Lactate profiling to define training zones and thresholds.
- VO2 max testing to determine aerobic capacity.
- Carbohydrate and fat utilisation testing to understand fuel burn at different intensities.
- Sweat testing to quantify individual fluid and sodium loss.
Each test is translated into a personalised strategy for training, fuelling, and hydration. By integrating lab insights with its product range, STYRKR aims to connect physiological testing to actionable fuelling protocols for both training and competition.
Christian Sanderson, Co-Founder and CEO of STYRKR, said “There’s so much noise in this space right now. Athletes are being pulled in different directions by social media, brands, and advice that often contradicts itself.
“The reality is simple: your sweat rate, your fuel efficiency, and your thresholds are unique to you. No amount of generic advice can replace knowing your own numbers. We built the SIGR Human Performance Lab because fuelling should be based on your data, not someone else’s opinion.”
Ella Ransley, Sport Science and Athlete Performance Specialist at STYRKR, added “We know from the research that sweat sodium concentration can vary significantly between athletes, and that individualised hydration strategies can meaningfully improve performance.
“The lab allows us to measure those individual responses and translate them into strategies athletes can trust. On race day, that confidence matters; it allows athletes to focus on performance, not second-guessing their strategy.”
STYRKR, which takes its name from the Old Norse word for ‘strength’, manufactures its products in-house at its facility in the UK. The company didn’t reveal the meaning behind SIGR, in the naming of its performance lab. Although, SIGR is expected to refer to the Old Norse word for ‘victory’.
The STYRKR brand’s elite athletes and ambassadors have already been using the lab ahead of its opening to the wider endurance community this month. Bookings for the lab can be made via the brand’s website, where pricing details will be confirmed.
