The Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria triathlon is set to distribute a €25,000 prize purse, split equally between the men’s and women’s professional fields. The event, which takes place on April 18, 2026, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year at Anfi del Mar in Mogán, Gran Canaria, Spain.
As a key fixture on the Challenge Family circuit, the race serves as a qualifying event for Challenge Family’s The Championship held in Samorin, Slovakia. The top six finishers in all categories, including middle distance age groups, will receive invitations to the international final in Slovakia this summer.
Organised by the Challenge Gran Canaria team with support from Mogán Town Council and the Gran Canaria Island Council, the Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria event marks the start of the European season for many elite athletes. The 2026 edition has sold out all places, with approximately 500 triathletes representing 27 nations and three continents.
The professional field features more than 60 athletes. According to the organising team, the event has seen an increase in professional participation and reached capacity in record time, making it one of the most anticipated editions in the race’s history.
The programme for the anniversary event begins on Thursday April 16, 2026, with an online technical briefing for age group athletes provided by officials from the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation. On Friday April 17, 2026, race pack collection opens at 12:00, followed by the professional athlete briefing.
The main competition gets underway at 08:00 local time on Saturday April 18, 2026. The race includes three distinct categories: middle distance, short distance, and relay formats. The middle distance race typically comprises a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21.1km run.
Junior athletes will also participate on Saturday afternoon. Starting at 16:00, more than 150 participants are expected for the Aquathlon Challenge. This event forms part of the Canary Islands Championship and involves clubs from across the islands competing under the Challenge Family banner.
The Anfi Challenge Mogán Gran Canaria is the only international triathlon held on the island. It receives backing from several regional bodies, including the Canary Islands Government, the Anfi Group, and the Anfi Sports Academy. The event weekend concludes with a trophy presentation on Saturday afternoon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the race.
Challenge Family’s middle distance The Championship in Slovakia is a race exclusively for athletes who qualify through the Challenge Family circuit, bringing together many of the world’s top professionals and age groupers for a head-to-head competition over the 113km distance.
