Accell Group, the European bicycle and bicycle parts manufacturer with international operations, has been granted a provisional suspension of payments for its Dutch entities (effective on August 5, 2026), following an exhaustive review of all possible alternatives, such as a sale and refinancing.
The company’s portfolio of bicycle brands includes Haibike, Winora, Ghost, Batavus, Koga, Lapierre, Raleigh, Sparta, Babboe, Carqon, Van Nicholas, Loekie, Tunturi, and Nishiki, alongside bicycle parts and accessories brand XLC.
In February 2026, following a fundamental operational restructuring, Accell Group reached an agreement with its shareholders and lenders on additional funding and a significant reduction in debt. As part of this agreement, ownership of Accell Group transferred to its lenders, which was not intended to be a long-term ownership structure.
Since then, Accell Group and its advisers have a range of avenues for the group’s future, including discussions with several interested parties, the consideration of multiple offers, and seeking regulatory approval for a potential merger.
Despite these efforts, it has not been possible to reach a viable solution for Accell Group to continue operations in its current form. Having exhausted all the available options, the directors of the group have concluded that it is no longer able to meet its financial obligations as they fall due and that initiating local insolvency proceedings of the relevant group subsidiaries is the necessary next step.
Jonas Nilsson, CEO at Accell Group, said “This is a deeply sad and frustrating situation given all the hard work and everything we have achieved, with the support of shareholders and lenders, to restructure Accell’s operations and finances.
“It is an especially difficult moment for our employees, creditors, customers, suppliers, and partners. Every realistic option for the future of the business has been tirelessly explored, and none have resulted in a solution to continue the Group in its current form.”
He added “Our immediate focus is to support an orderly process, provide clarity wherever possible, and work with the relevant court-appointed administrators to preserve viable activities and employment where circumstances allow.”
According to the company, Accell Group is the European market leader in e-bikes and second largest in bicycle parts and accessories, working closely with tens of thousands of local dealers throughout Europe. The gGroup stated that it will share more information once it becomes available.
