As athletes prepare for 2013 and get set to embark on their Ironman UK journey, the event organisers have confirmed that the 2013 Bolton event has filled in record time.
A record sized field is ready to compete at next year’s Ironman UK race, with 1,750 athletes now preparing to race in England’s northwest. The event has also sold out general entry places five months earlier than the 2012 race.
Only a few entries now remain via the official charities and event partners.
“In 2012 we reached capacity in March,” says Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK. “It is testament to the work that has gone into the event over the past two years, and the support we are receiving from Bolton Council and our event partners, that demand for places sees us reach our target so early for 2013.
“We now look forward to putting on a great race for all our athletes.”
IronKids will also return to Bolton town centre the day before Ironman UK. Building on the success of the inaugural event, which saw 1,000 children finish under the Ironman finish gantry, it is hoped that up to 2,000 children, aged from 3 to 15 years, will be taking part in the event in its second year.
For those athletes keen to race Ironman in the UK in 2013, Ironman 70.3 UK and Ironman Wales still has places available.
