Nicola Spirig, Switzerland’s winner of the 2012 Olympic Women’s Triathlon event, is switching to On running shoes. The young and innovative Swiss-based shoe developer and manufacturer succeeds Nike, which has supplied Spirig’s competitive footwear for several years up until now.
“The On is phenomenally innovative,” said Nicola Spirig following her change of shoe supplier. “And its unique cushioning system really won me over.”
Spirig has set herself new goals with her new competitive footwear: the 2014 European Athletics Championships, which will be held in Zurich, and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“For my next objective – the European Athletics Championships – I now need to extend the scope of my training runs,” she explained. “On has the ideal shoe for this: I don’t tire so quickly, so I can put in more kilometres.”
“We’re immensely pleased and proud to have recruited Nicola to our ranks,” added Olivier Bernhard, six-time former Ironman Champion and co-founder of On. “She and her coach have put the On through its paces, and they’re both delighted with its new running sensation.”
Nicola Spirig joins over 70 top athletes around the world who have switched to On shoes. The innovative running footwear brand has already notched up some 30 victories and a further 40 podium finishes.
On was founded in January 2010. The young Swiss-based sports company now sells its innovative running product in over 20 countries, and won the coveted ISPO Gold Award for the best performance shoe in February of this year.
Nicola Spirig’s shoe of choice is the award-winning Cloudracer. Other athletes racing in the brand include Ironman champion Frederik Van Lierde, who recently won Ironman Nice. He noted that he chose to run in the Swiss brand because…”My Ons are just the perfect fit for me! Lots of kilometres day after day and my feet and legs don’t hurt. On’s Cloudtec technology does it all.”
The Swiss sports start-up and run shoe specialist has had a busy start to 2013. Having won a prestigious Gold Award from the international sports goods convention, ISPO, for Best Performance Shoe, the company recently re-engineered its Cloudrunner shoe to ‘combine the best stability with a light and natural running feel.’ Meanwhile, following a global sponsorship deal recently signed with coaching and triathlon team powerhouse, teamTBB, On has also signed an endorsement agreement with XTERRA World Champion Lesley Paterson.
