Tri bike pioneer Quintana Roo (QR) has announced that it will sponsor professional triathlete and rising YouTube star, Callum Millward, for the next three seasons. The 2014 Wildflower triathlon runner-up will race QR’s newly launched superbike, the PRsix.
“Callum is not afraid to think outside of the box and try new things to generate fan interest while creating a personal brand,” said Mac McEneaney, Director of North American Sales and Marketing for Quintana Roo. “His YouTube video series is a great example of what’s possible with social media, and it’ll be a great place for him to talk about the course records that will fall with his new bike upgrade.”
The latest sponsorship follows a recently confirmed deal with Pittsburg-based professional triathlete Beth Shutt. Quintana Roo notes that it is seeking an expansion into working with ‘top-tier pro athletes who have an established social media personality.’ Callum Millward’s internet videos have recorded tens of thousands of hits, reflecting the importance of a strong online presence for both brands and athletes.
“I’m rapt to partner with QR and ride the PRsix,” said Millward. “Finally there is a super bike that looks stunning and at the same time you don’t need to be a grand tour mechanic when racing, training and traveling with this bike. I’m excited to be one of the first athletes to ride this bike and show what it is capable of.”
For the 2014 season, Callum Millward will focus on the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Mont-Tremblant, Canada. Millward is not your everyday 70.3 triathlete. Based in Boulder, Colorado, for part of the year and Australia and New Zealand for the rest, Millward is well-known for his popular YouTube series ‘Keeping Up with the Kiwi’, which chronicles his training and racing.
Quintana Roo was the first company to create a triathlon-specific wetsuit over 25 years ago, and then a tri-specific bike two years later. QR notes that it ‘remains the only company in the world wholly committed to triathlon by focusing solely on creating the best fitting and most aerodynamic, functional triathlon bikes in existence.’
