Female support at Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon

With less than 5 weeks until entries close for the Shock Absorber Women Only Triathlon, time is running out for female athletes and first-timers to be part of a ‘bumper day of triathlon’. The event, which is organised by leading mass participation sports events company Human Race, takes place on Sunday 13 July at the iconic Olympic venue Dorney Lake.

Shock Absorber is the title partner of the event and will be present in the expo area to offer expert advice on sports bra fitting; and will also be dishing out spot prizes on the day.

This year, participants and spectators can expect to see an inspiring elite field taking part as well as Olympic legend Victoria Pendleton and Spice Girl Melanie C who are heading up triathlon relay teams.

Victoria and Melanie will be competing over distances of 400m swim, 21.2K bike and 5K run along with a batch of competition winners. Whilst Melanie has vowed to let her two team members decide which discipline she will take on, Victoria will be tackling the run (Human Race thought it wasn’t fair if she cycled!) in what will be a great spectator event.

Melanie said “The Shock Absorber Women Only triathlon is a fantastic celebration of women in sport. It allows ladies to compete in an environment which is encouraging and fun. Women contribute so much to the world of sport and these events offer a chance for all women to get involved regardless of their age or ability.”

Both celebrity ambassadors are passionate about encouraging women to take up sport and are prominent supporters of the Human Race Women Only series of events, which also includes a run, swim and series of cycling events (Macmillan Cycletta).

This year a new elite wave has also been added to the triathlon, which will set off at the beginning of the day, giving those taking part later in the day something to cheer on and perhaps provide inspiration as they prepare for their own race.

Emma Pallant, 2013 British Triathlon Champion, who will be taking part in the event said, “I am incredibly excited to race at Dorney and see girl power in full force. No matter what shape, size or age, anyone can take part in triathlon. It’s such an inspirational sport, having inspired me to convert from a running background, and I hope you will come join me and give it a go!”

The event has distances ranging from Novice (200m swim, 5.3K bike, 2.5K run) to Super Sprint (400m swim, 21.2K bike, 5K run) and Challenge (800m swim, 31.8K bike, 7.5K run), as well as a relay over the latter distance, so there is sure to be a race for all that will not only challenge participants but give them the ultimate feeling of achievement and most importantly have a fun day out.
