Balorama Media Group has confirmed that it has signed an agreement with Eurosport 2 to broadcast the Challenge Denmark event in Billund, which takes place on 13 June. In addition to coverage across Europe via the Eurosport 2 TV channel, Balorama will also provide live coverage of the event through laptops, tablets, smartphones and big screens in and around Billund, the town in the Jutland area of Denmark.
According to Challenge Family, the new event ‘promises to delight athletes and families alike with its unique focus around Legoland Billund Resort.’
The return of Challenge Family to Denmark follows the termination of Challenge Family’s contract with YWC Sports and the Challenge Copenhagen and Challenge Aarhus races in July 2013. At the time, according to Challenge, the sale by the directors of YWC to Ironman brand owner World Triathlon Corp (WTC) put the local event organisers in breach of a contract that still had two more editions of each race to run.
The new Challenge Denmark event sees the swim takes place in Fuglsang Lake in Herning, a city renowned for its sporting events and facilities. The cycle heads south towards Billund. The route is flat and fast and athletes can expect some fast times from this course. The race will also go through some of the same parts of the country as the Giro d’Italia did in 2012 when the race visited Denmark.
The run course is centred in and around Legoland Billund Resort and is flat and fast, including a special feature of a lap around the horse racing track before finishing in the heart of Lalandia, home to Denmark’s largest water park and tropical holiday centre.
