Ultra-runner Michelle Laws joins new Nuffield Health facility

The Gloucestershire Sports Injury and Exercise Medicine Clinic, in partnership with Nuffield Health

Experienced ultra-runner Michelle Laws has joined health and wellbeing specialist Nuffield Health as part of the company’s administration team supporting developments at a new facility in Cheltenham. Michelle’s primary role will be as secretary to Dr Rod Jaques, nationally renowned Sports Medicine specialist who heads up The Gloucestershire Sports Injury & Exercise Medicine Clinic in partnership with Nuffield Health.

Drawing on over 20 years of experience in sport and health, Michelle, who has completed over 50 ultra-marathons and marathons, will be supporting Dr Jaques and the team of specialist orthopaedic consultants at Nuffield Health in Cheltenham in what is billed as the prototype for a new integrated approach to sports medicine and physiotherapy rehabilitation.

Her experience comes from an impressive track record as a Personal Trainer, Pilates Instructor and qualified Sports Massage Practitioner. Transferring her skills and experiences into the administrative role, Michelle will be assisting consultants with a range of daily administrative duties.

Michelle’s personal investment in The Gloucestershire Sports Injury and Exercise Medicine Clinic is not just by chance. She is a former patient of Dr Jaques and attributes much of her success in running to his expertise.

“I can really relate with many of the patients, having suffered injuries whilst preparing for an important event myself, Dr Jaques has treated me and got me back running again. With his support and expertise I was able to successfully complete the Brecon Beacons Ultra Marathon in 2013 – a 52 mile challenging off road ultra-marathon, which I was doubtful of even competing in due to my injury,” said Michelle.

“I’m really looking forward to being part of that important recovery journey with patients and monitoring their progress in achieving their goals, it will be very satisfying and rewarding and something I can connect with,” Michelle continued.

“I am delighted to welcome Michelle on board,” added Dr Rod Jaques, “Her experiences in the field of exercise and health are highly valuable; her belief in what we are trying to achieve here at The Gloucestershire Sports Injury & Exercise Medicine Clinic will also help us achieve our goal of getting as many individuals sporting fit.”

The Gloucestershire Sports Injury & Exercise Medicine Clinic, in partnership with Nuffield Health, situated within the hospital’s newly refurbished physiotherapy and rehabilitation unit, aims to offer patients a new approach to sports medicine along with a range of state of the art equipment, which will diagnose, treat and maintain the health and sporting performance of professional and amateur athletes alike, along with supporting the recovery for individuals with medical and surgical issues that may benefit from exercise as part of their recovery programme.

Nuffield Health has been taking care of people for more than 50 years. The company has brought together hospitals, gym facilities, health clinics and diagnostic units to offer the individual a comprehensive health care package. Nuffield Health operates 30 private hospitals across the UK, including a 33 private room and en-suite facility in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.
