Last weekend saw the Brighton and Hove Triathlon kick-off racing on Brighton seafront, on the English South Coast, for 1,000 competitors including ‘age group drafting, lots of beginners and a sport and fitness expo with over 22,000 sports loving visitors.’

The weather conditions were seen as perfect for the inaugural race and the flat sea allowed for a calmer sea swim. The technical team, headed up by John Lunt, included many of the crew who have worked on past Olympic and Commonwealth Games. The organising team delivered eight hours of closed road racing on the iconic Brighton seafront across three distances, Olympic, Sprint and Super Sprint.

Race Director John Lunt said, “I am really pleased with our first triathlon in the stunning location of Brighton and Hove. It was amazing to see our event supported by thousands of local people along the whole route and the sport and fitness show packed with over 20,000 visitors throughout the weekend. It was a great advert for our sport and we are looking forward to next year on 17th September.”

Event Director Lisa Clayton, delivered a This Girl Can briefing to all of the WomenOnly waves within the race. She added, “I am incredibly proud that we achieved our vision and targets for female participation in triathlon. What a great sight to see all those lovely ladies of all different ages and abilities having so much fun.”

The Sport and Fitness Show which ran alongside the show was a host to fun activities for all the family to enjoy including a real snow ski and snowboard slope, climbing wall, netball court, yoga tent, segway adventure and a range of sports coaching including football, cricket, rugby and even Harry Potter style Quidditch!

Next year’s event will take place on Sunday 17 September 2017 and will also include racing for ages 13 plus.
