One month ahead of Challenge Salou 2020, the event’s organizing team has had to announce the definitive cancellation of this year’s edition. The decision was made after ‘analysing all the circumstances and seeing the impossibility of being able to carry out this important event with all the guarantees.’
The inaugural Challenge Salou took place in May 2015, when it then became the only Challenge Family event on the Spanish peninsula.
It has been observed that it was not possible to go ahead with the 2020 edition. According to the organizers… ‘an event with circuit restrictions, without an audience, without parallel activities, without ceremonies, would become too different a show. This is a difficult decision, but also the most responsible and sensible.’
Jort Vlam, CEO of Challenge Family said “It is sad to have to cancel Challenge Salou 2020, but unfortunately it is the only and the most correct option to keep our athletes and their families safe. We are happy that Challenge Salou offers very fair cancellation options, especially taking into account the moment in which the cancellation occurs.”
Vlam added that he “wanted to thank the Challenge Salou team, the city, the government team and the sponsors, for the effort made until the last minute to try to be able to celebrate this triathlon event.”
A release from the organising team noted… ‘He also wants to thank the athletes for trusting with the Challenge Family franchise, looking forward to seeing them again in Salou on October 2-3, 2021.
Challenge Salou has sent an email to all participants ‘with different solutions to manage their registration.’
