The Mallorca 312 is returning later this month, after a hiatus of more than two years. This year’s event on the Spanish island is set for October 24 in Platja de Muro – with the leading bib number ‘312’ worn by professional cyclist Mavi García.
The cyclist, who recently made her debut as a Spanish athlete during the Tokyo Olympic Games, is the first woman to wear the bib number 312 – joining a list of professional athletes such as Alberto Contador, Miguel Induráin, Óscar Pereiro, Óscar Freire or Joseba Beloki.
The Mallorca 312 event organising team note that… ‘Professional cyclist, Mavi García, is from Alé BTC Ljubljana and is one of the best international squad leaders when the road becomes steep. She has also obtained great results in the last race in level events such as the International Female Cycling Tour Cycliste Féminin International de l’Ardèche, Time Trial Road Championship in Spain, as well as the aforementioned Olympic Games.’
The cyclist from Baleares began her professional career five years ago. She said “I am very happy to finally participate in the 312 event because, although I have been invited several times, I was never able to do so since it coincided with the mid-season competition.
“This year, I can participate and it’s an honour for me to wear the number 312 in such a special event as this one. I am also the first female cyclist to wear this number making it even more special. This means that I am able to make a mark in the evolution of women’s sports in general. I am very excited to ride the island with the rest of the participants and will do my best to cycle the 312 kilometres.”
The Mallorca 312 organisers add that the race… ‘has always promoted female participation, and has increased its quota of female cyclists who compete in the race, reaching 10% of those who register. This represents the highest number of female participations at a national level in these types of cycling events.’
The mass participation race this month will take place in three consecutive areas on the same avenue of Platja de Muro. All of them start at 06:30 CET with the finish line closing at 20:30.
Participants will be asked to present a Covid-19 certificate showing their two vaccine shots, proof of having had the disease in the last six months or a negative result PCR test (72 hours in advance) or an antigen test (48 hours in advance).
Hydro alcoholic gels will be available throughout the event and rider distancing must be maintained at all times in the expo area, as well as the mandatory use of a mask when safety distancing is not guaranteed.
Should participants have to cancel for reasons due to Covid-19, the event will refund 100% of the registration fee.
