Jan Ullrich, winner of the Tour de France in 1997 and a key rival of Lance Armstrong, returned to the cycling scene at the weekend by participating in the Mallorca 312 cycling race on Sunday, October 24th.
The eleventh edition of the Mallorca 312 started at Playa de Muro with the presence of pro rider Mavi García from Mallorca. She is the first woman honouree to wear the number 312 bib in the race.
Also present was the winner of the three grand tours, Alberto Contador; the triple world champion Óscar Freire; the three-time podium winner during the Tour de France, Joseba Beloki; and former pro rider Pedro Horrillo.
One of the attractions was former winner of the Tour de France in 1997, Jan Ullrich. The German reappeared on the cycling scene after many years of being absent. Ullrich faced the 312km challenge on Sunday, after more than 20 years without pedalling such a distance.
The event is part of the Milestone Series and is sponsored by the Balearic Islands Tourism Strategy Agency and the Mallorca Tourism Foundation.
