The 21st annual XTERRA USA Championship off-road triathlon was held on July 16th, in conjunction with a new family-friendly and community-focused weekend of events in Beaver Creek, Avon, Colorado.
The main USA Championship event for age group and elite athletes took place in Beaver Creek’s Nottingham Park and comprised of a 1,500m swim, 24km off-road bike and 9km trail run.
In the elite women’s race, three-time XTERRA World Champion Lesley Paterson took the win in a time of 02:43:43. Racing as a pro for the first time, 18-year-old Sullivan Middaugh won the elite men’s race with a time of 02:20:28, beating his dad, 15-time U.S. champion Josiah Middaugh, who finished second.
