The Supertri League for elite athletes gets under way in Boston, USA, on Sunday, August 18, with the winners of 11 Olympic medals in Paris 2024 competing across a five-round series and a prize pool focused on teams and rewarding emerging talent in the sport.
Supertri has made a number of enhancements for 2024, including the allocation of prize money. The athletes will compete for a Teams League prize pool of US$925,000, with the leading team of four men and four women collecting US$375,000.
The Teams prize pool is in addition to the prize money paid to the top five athletes in the men’s and women’s leagues and the winners of individual swim, bike and run leagues.
The new prize money split is designed to further incentivise team racing for the teams’ new franchise owners, and also to reward not only those at the very top of the sport but also promising young athletes. Each team must have an under-23 athlete on their roster.
Another enhancement will see athletes tackle the same Supertri format across all five rounds of the league. This involves three continuous rounds of swim, bike and run with no breaks in the action.
Paris gold medal winners Cassandre Beaugrand, Alex Yee and Tim Hellwig headline a stacked elite field as Supertri kicks-off its 2024 League with back-to-back US events in Boston and Chicago.
16 male and 16 female athletes will compete for four franchise-owned teams – with Brownlee Racing, Podium Racing, Stars & Stripes Racing and Crown Racing all vying for the win.
Supertri Boston takes place as part of the Boston Triathlon weekend, and will see Olympic medallists renew their rivalries and seek revenge for results in Paris, as well forge their new team dynamics under managers Tim Don, Non Stanford, Chris McCormack and Parker Spencer.
