Gretel Planner incorporates AI to improve race organisation

Event safety and planning specialist Gretel Planner has launched a new artificial intelligence feature designed to assist race organisers.

The tech company adds that its latest update transforms individual participant data into strategic insights, allowing organisers to make more informed decisions before and during endurance events.

The technology, which is already used by athletes to plan pacing and nutrition, now offers event organisers predictive reporting based on anonymised participant data. This includes estimated average finishing times to help anticipate non-completion rates and medical assistance needs.

The AI tool also identifies the slowest segments of a course to highlight where additional signage or resources may be required. Furthermore, it predicts saturation times at aid stations, allowing race directors to redistribute staff and supplies based on when the largest windows of participants are expected to arrive.

Jorge Vilanova, CEO of Gretel Planner, said “With this new feature, our aim is to provide organisers with a fully practical tool. Helping them use real data to organise the race more efficiently not only improves their budget but also increases event safety and reduces stress during race weekend.”

The platform provides logistical insights such as average carbohydrate intake per hour, which helps organisers plan nutritional support. It also detects segments with large performance gaps or points with a higher potential risk of incidents.

Gretel Planner is designed for various disciplines including trail running, road cycling, MTB, gravel, and OCR. The company confirmed that all data is processed anonymously to ensure participant privacy.
