Cardiff Airport has been announced as an official partner of the Cardiff Half Marathon, which is scheduled this year to take place on October 4, 2026.
The airport, which serves as a major gateway for Wales, aims to support the event’s ambition of showcasing the city of Cardiff on the international stage. The partnership is expected to deliver both economic and social value across the region.
The Cardiff Half Marathon is organised by Run 4 Wales, which itself comes under the London Marathon Events (LME) group umbrella. Linked with the mantra of LME, Run 4 Wales positions itself as an organisation that focuses on driving positive social change. Surpluses generated from the Cardiff Half Marathon event are directed into the Run 4 Wales Charitable Foundation, which invests in grassroots sport and community projects.
Meanwhile, as a member of the SuperHalfs series – which includes races in Lisbon, Prague, Berlin, Copenhagen, and Valencia – the Cardiff Half Marathon is attracting a growing number of international runners to Wales.
Cardiff Airport currently offers 39 direct routes and flights to various European cities. It also provides transatlantic connections, including a new direct air link between Cardiff and Toronto, Canada, which launches in May 2026 via WestJet. According to the airport, these links allow Welsh runners to access international events more easily.
Matt Newman, Chief Executive at Run 4 Wales, said “We’re really excited to welcome Cardiff Airport as an official partner of the Cardiff Half Marathon. Like us, it shares the vision of showcasing our fantastic city to the rest of the world. We’re very much looking forward to seeing what the future holds for this new collaboration as we take off on this new chapter together.”
Jon Bridge, CEO of Cardiff Airport, said “We are incredibly proud to be partnering with the Cardiff Half Marathon. It’s a flagship event for Wales and one that brings huge energy and visibility to Cardiff each year. We’re delighted to play our part in welcoming participants and spectators from across the UK and beyond, showcasing not only the city but also the warm Welsh welcome and the growing connectivity that Cardiff Airport provides.”
To mark the commencement of the partnership, a competition to win a £100 flight voucher has been launched via the Cardiff Half Instagram page.
