Letter from The Cyclists’ Alliance to UCI outlines vision for future of women’s cycling

The Cyclists Alliance

The Cyclists’ Alliance (TCA) has published its formal response to a Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) consultation process. In a letter to cycling’s international governing body, TCA presents what it sees as a rider-led vision aimed at creating a stronger and more sustainable future for women’s professional cycling.

The submission was developed in collaboration with the TCA Rider Council, rider members, and legal partners at Morgan Sports Law. It is backed by more than 200 co-signatories and reflects the experiences of athletes across the sport.

Non-profit organisation, TCA, emphasises that while visibility for women’s cycling is increasing at the elite level, long-term success depends on strengthening the underlying structures of the sport.

Deena Blacking, Interim Managing Director at TCA, said “Our goal is to ensure that growth in women’s cycling is matched by a strong and sustainable foundation. This submission represents the collective voice of riders and a shared vision for how the sport can continue to evolve.”

The letter outlines several key areas for development, including:

  • A clearly defined and supported professional pathway
  • Consistent safety standards and accountability
  • Financial sustainability and fair working conditions
  • Increased visibility and broadcast access

The Cyclists’ Alliance states that addressing these areas will require collaboration across all stakeholders, including governing bodies, teams, organisers, and sponsors.

The Cyclists’ Alliance is the independent voice of women’s professional cycling, advocating for safe and equitable working conditions while supporting riders through mentorship and support services. As an independent organisation, TCA provides services such as legal support, education, and advocacy to its members. It relies on the support of the cycling community to maintain its status as an independent voice for the pro women’s peloton.
