Inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Veracruz to debut in Mexico this December

The IRONMAN Group has confirmed the addition of a new race to its international portfolio with the launch of the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Veracruz triathlon in Mexico.

The event will take place on Sunday December 6, 2026, making Veracruz the fifth city in Mexico to host an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon. The new race joins established Mexican events held in Cozumel, Campeche, Monterrey and Los Cabos.

Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest port city, located on the Gulf of Mexico, and serves as a tourism destination with a tropical climate. General registration for the event has opened immediately following the announcement.

Joanna Jordan, Vice President of Latin America for The IRONMAN Group, said “The demand for IRONMAN-branded events continues to grow across Mexico. With the continued success of our events in the region, Veracruz becomes the fifth city in Mexico to host an IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon. The community’s inviting and energetic spirit makes it an ideal destination for athletes seeking both competition and an unforgettable race experience.”

The race course will feature a 1.9km (1.2 miles) single-lap swim starting at Gaviotas Beach in Boca del Río. Following the swim, athletes will transition to a 90km (56 miles) two-loop bike course that travels through the Veracruz Riviera.

The final leg comprises a 21.1km (13.1 miles) run along the Veracruz Malecón, with the finish line situated back in Boca del Río. The event will offer qualifying slots for the 2027 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship race.

The IRONMAN Group manages a portfolio of events, media platforms and digital products across more than 50 countries. Its global event roster includes the IRONMAN Triathlon Series, the IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon Series, the 5150 Triathlon Series, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series, City2Surf and the UTMB World Series of trail running.
