Spain’s newest IRONMAN-branded triathlon, IRONMAN 70.3 Málaga, has sold out in just four days, marking the fastest sell-out in Europe for the 2026 season and the quickest in the history of the brand’s Spanish events.
Scheduled for October 18, 2026, the inaugural race on the Costa del Sol will see nearly 3,000 athletes from over 70 countries take to the start line. While Spanish athletes make up a third of the field, IRONMAN notes that the event has drawn a significant international contingent, including over 750 participants from the United Kingdom & Ireland.
The rapid sell-out follows a trend of IRONMAN reporting strong growth across its European circuit in 2025 and 2026. A reported surge in demand – particularly from younger athletes – led IRONMAN to add four new races to the 2026 series: Alghero, Leipzig, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Málaga. All four of these new additions have now reached capacity.
Málaga joins a Spanish portfolio that includes established races in Barcelona, Valencia, Mallorca, Vitoria-Gasteiz, and Lanzarote. In October 2026, athletes racing in Málaga can expect a mild Mediterranean climate and a course that highlights the city’s cultural heritage.
Although general entries are now closed, prospective participants can still access the event through the IRONMAN Foundation or by racing with one of the brand’s official travel partners.
