ITRA steps out with Women’s Trail Day 2026

The International Trail Running Association (ITRA) has announced the second edition of Women’s Trail Day, an international initiative dedicated to supporting women in trail running. The main event will take place on Monday June 1, 2026, with community activations encouraged over the preceding weekend of May 30–31.

For the 2026 edition, ITRA is collaborating with footwear brand Anta Guanjun as the Official Initiative Partner. The partnership aims to increase female participation and visibility in the sport across all regions. According to ITRA’s 2025 global database, women account for 30.5% of trail runners, indicating a continued need for initiatives that make the sport more inclusive.

The campaign invites women to engage with trails in a way that suits them, whether via solo outings, local group runs, or organised mountain trips.

Janet Ng, President of ITRA, said “Last year, women across the world stepped onto the trails for our first Women’s Trail Day – we saw it, we felt it. For our second year, let’s capture that magic again and carry the spirit even further. Feel the freedom and connection that come from moving through nature. Let’s have a blast and make this movement unmistakably ours.”

As part of the 2026 activities, ITRA will host a flagship in-person event in Chamonix, France, co-organised with Run the Alps. This will take place on Sunday May 31, 2026, starting at 10:30 CEST at Big Mountain Basecamp. The event features a 7–8km social trail run followed by a Q&A session with invited female athletes. While the event is free, space is limited and pre-registration is required.

The 2026 initiative is supported by various partners including Maurten, Runderwear, and Venue Host Big Mountain Basecamp.

ITRA is a non-profit organisation founded in 2013 to promote the development and governance of trail running internationally. It provides a points-based ranking system for athletes and supports race organisers in maintaining safety and environmental standards. Anta Guanjun is a sub-brand of the international sportswear company Anta, focusing on high-performance gear for trail running, skiing, and hiking.
