New Garmin Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 smartwatches

Garmin has expanded its range of GPS running smartwatches with the introduction of the Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170. The new devices are designed to assist runners of all levels, featuring 1.2-inch AMOLED displays and a traditional five-button design alongside a responsive touchscreen.

The devices include updated training tools and health metrics. Garmin Run Coach plans now incorporate run/walk workouts and lower volume training options. Additionally, daily suggested workouts on the devices adapt after every session to account for performance and recovery data.

Susan Lyman, Vice President of Consumer Sales and Marketing at Garmin, said “Purposefully designed with everything a runner needs to start their running journey, Forerunner 70 and Forerunner 170 include premium running and training features pulled in from our more advanced Forerunners, plus popular health and wellness metrics. No matter the goal, these smartwatches are the perfect tools to help new and aspiring runners alike make every step count.”

The Forerunner 70 features built-in GPS, wrist-based heart rate monitoring, and advanced training metrics such as training readiness and training status. It also includes more than 80 built-in sports apps and 24/7 health tracking, including sleep coach and heart rate variability (HRV) status. The device offers up to 13 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and is available in colours such as citron and cool lavender.

The Forerunner 170 adds Garmin Pay contactless payments. The Forerunner 170 Music edition allows users to download songs and podcasts from third-party services for phone-free listening. Both 170 models provide up to 10 days of battery life in smartwatch mode and are available in various colourways, including teal green and red pink.

The new models will be available to purchase on May 15, 2026. The Forerunner 70 has a suggested retail price of £219.99, while the Forerunner 170 is priced at £259.99, or £299.99 for the Music version.
