Italian sports and media company RCS Sport has announced that Luca Guercilena will take overall responsibility for its cycling division, effective September 1, 2026.
In his new role, Guercilena will oversee both the organisation of the company’s events and the management of all related logistical operations. The structural shift follows the retirement of long-standing Giro d’Italia Race Director Mauro Vegni in February 2026, with RCS Sport opting to move away from a traditional single-figure director model toward a broader division management structure.
Guercilena brings extensive elite-level cycling leadership to the organisation. He recently announced his departure as General Manager of WorldTour outfit Lidl-Trek – a project he has steered since its inception under previous title sponsors – and will officially hand over executive duties to incoming CEO Andy Schleck and Chief Sporting Officer Grischa Niermann following the conclusion of this year’s Tour de France.
Paolo Bellino, CEO and General Manager of RCS Sports and Events, said “Luca Guercilena’s appointment marks a strategic step in strengthening our group’s cycling division. His expertise, combined with his in-depth knowledge of the international cycling landscape, will enable us to take a further leap forward both in terms of race organisation and future development. We are confident that his contribution will be instrumental in consolidating our position as a global benchmark in the world of cycling.”
RCS Sport holds a prominent position within professional cycling as the owner and operator of the Giro d’Italia, alongside prestigious historic Monument Classics such as Milano–Sanremo and Il Lombardia, and prominent WorldTour stage races including Tirreno–Adriatico.
Luca Guercilena said “I am proud to join RCS Sport at a time of great evolution for cycling. It is an exciting challenge that I embrace with great motivation and a strong sense of responsibility. My goal will be to further enhance the expertise already within the organisation, strengthen the dialogue with institutions and teams, and contribute to the development of new international projects, helping take cycling to even greater heights.”
