Peter Hutton appointed as PTO Chairman

The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has announced that Peter Hutton will become its Chairman, succeeding Chris Kermode. Hutton, a long-standing PTO board member, moves into the role on an interim basis as the organisation prepares for international growth and the launch of its new Triathlon World Tour in 2027.

Hutton has been a member of the PTO board since December 2020. He previously served as Head of Sport at Meta and CEO of Eurosport, offering PTO expertise in commercial, broadcast, and digital sectors to the Chairman role.

The transition comes as the PTO increases its focus on scaling following the acquisition of Challenge Family earlier this year. The organisation is also evolving its strategic partnership with World Triathlon, the sport’s international governing body.

Peter Hutton, Chairman of the PTO, said “I want to first of all thank and congratulate Chris on his tenure as Chairman and the huge impact that he has made. From joining as an early board member and becoming Chairman in 2022, to then announcing the next phase of our growth with the Triathlon World Tour in December last year, his experience, positive energy and practical know-how have been invaluable.”

Hutton added that a central part of the vision is to grow the triathlon community worldwide through a year-round calendar of live, linear, and digital content.

Chris Kermode, departing Chairman, was appointed in 2022 and helped establish the organisation through a significant developmental phase. He noted that it was the right moment to step aside as the organisation builds towards 2027.

Sam Renouf, CEO of the PTO, said “Much of the PTO’s commercial appeal to partners and investors stems from pioneering a new model for professional sport – one that leverages emerging media to build a diversified business, rather than relying solely on traditional media rights. Peter’s leadership in these areas makes him an invaluable guide as we pursue our ambitions to grow the sport.”

The PTO’s T100 Triathlon World Tour, introduced in 2024, is designated by World Triathlon as the official World Championship for long-distance triathlon.

In 2026, the T100 Tour consists of a nine-stop series, including events on the Gold Coast on March 21–22, 2026, Singapore on April 25–26, 2026, and the French Riviera on September 19–20, 2026, before concluding in Qatar on December 11–12, 2026. These events feature a 100km format comprising a 2km swim, 80km bike, and 18km run.
