GB international athlete Phily Bowden, based in Surrey, UK, has joined Precision Fuel & Hydration (PF&H) as a sponsored athlete and ambassador.
The partnership marks Bowden’s journey towards qualifying for the LA 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA. She will work alongside the personalised hydration and fuelling company’s sports science team to optimise her fuelling and hydration strategy through a mix of personalised testing and performance support.
Widely regarded as one of Britain’s leading marathon runners, Bowden has experience representing her country on the track, cross country, and on the road. Following her return from the first major injury of her career, she is now entering the next phase of her marathon journey with ambitions of competing at the highest level, including qualifying for her first Olympic Games.
As part of the partnership, Bowden will work closely with sports scientists at the PF&H Performance Lab in Dorset, UK, starting with sweat testing and personalised assessments to identify her individual hydration and fuelling needs. The insights gained will help refine her race-day nutrition strategy as she targets marathons over the coming years and aims to qualify for the 2028 LA Games.
Phily Bowden said “Honestly, it’s the science – PF&H are genuinely obsessed with the evidence behind what they make, and that matters whether you’re an elite chasing marginal gains or an everyday athlete trying to get to a finish line feeling good.
“If you want to optimise your fuelling and hydration in race conditions, you need to be able to trust that the products actually work, and I love that they’re built on real testing.
“This partnership goes beyond the products themselves; they have their own labs, sweat testing and a whole team of scientists. Having that level of support behind my training and racing is pretty special.”
Bowden believes there is still untapped potential in her marathon performance and sees the partnership as an opportunity to replace guesswork with evidence-based strategies. By taking a scientific approach to her hydration and fuelling, she hopes to unlock marginal gains as she chases success on marathon stages.
Bowden added “Up to now I’ve essentially guessed my carbs per hour through trial and error. I have no idea whether I’m taking on the right electrolytes for how I actually sweat. And I’ve never got on with caffeine.
“So, with PF&H’s scientific support, I’m looking forward to properly refining and personalising every element, dialling in my carb intake, matching my electrolytes to my sweat, and maybe even finding a caffeine protocol my gut can finally handle. The goal is squeezing every last bit of performance out of race day.”
With a coaching team and elements such as altitude training camps forming part of her programme, her partnership with PF&H represents another piece of the puzzle, using science, testing, and data to optimise her strategy.
Andy Blow, Founder at Precision Fuel & Hydration, said “We’re delighted to welcome Phily to the Precision Fuel & Hydration team. She is one of Britain’s most inspiring marathon athletes, combining incredible determination with a relentless desire to improve.
“We’re excited to support her throughout her journey towards LA 2028 and help her unlock every possible performance advantage to help her reach her full potential.”
