San Francisco Marathon team announces sell-out of China Airlines Bridge Half Marathon

San Francisco Marathon announces sell-out of China Airlines Bridge Half Marathon

The organisers of the San Francisco Marathon have announced that the China Airlines Bridge Half Marathon, which serves as the first half of the event weekend in San Francisco, has officially sold out.

The milestone represents the second major race category to reach maximum capacity for the upcoming event weekend on July 25-26, 2026. It follows the sell-out of the full marathon field, which closed registrations ahead of schedule in April. The mass-participation running event is organised by Jumping Fences, an event management company that coordinates large-scale road races across northern California.

Half marathon runners have claimed all available entries to tackle the half marathon course, which routes participants across the Golden Gate Bridge.

While the full marathon and the first half marathon options are entirely full, event organisers are encouraging athletes to consider the remaining distance categories. Registration continues to remain open for the second half marathon, commercially branded as the City Scenic Half Marathon. This alternative 13.1-mile option provides a route through Golden Gate Park, travels across the Haight-Ashbury district, and finishes along the Embarcadero waterfront.

Lauri Abrahamsen, Race Director of the San Francisco Marathon, said “We are absolutely thrilled by the incredible response to the China Airlines Bridge Half Marathon this year, especially coming on the heels of our full marathon selling out back in April.

“Selling out these runs so early underscores just how special this event is for the running community. For those who still want to be part of this unforgettable weekend, the City Scenic Second Half is a spectacular alternative, offering a deep dive into the heart and soul of San Francisco’s most iconic neighbourhoods.”

In addition to the second half marathon, a limited number of entry slots remain available across other event distances, catering to different fitness levels. Endurance athletes looking to extend their mileage can register for the Ultra Marathon, a 52-mile double-loop format that traverses the entire marathon race course twice. Shorter, faster options are also available through the standalone 10k and 5k road races, which are positioned as family-friendly options or opportunities to target personal best times.

The event weekend features a dedicated health and fitness expo, various community activations, and on-course race support across the different sectors of the city. The event management team indicates that overall registration across all open divisions is tracking significantly ahead of previous years, with all remaining race categories projected to reach full capacity in the coming weeks.

The San Francisco Marathon functions as a premier endurance sports property in the United States, showcasing the diverse urban culture, distinct neighbourhoods, and hilly topography of northern California. The multi-distance event draws tens of thousands of international and domestic participants annually, contributing a substantial economic impact to the hospitality, retail, and tourism sectors within the broader San Francisco, CA region.

The full schedule of events, travel logistics, and real-time category updates are hosted on the main event platform. Registration for the remaining open spots can be accessed directly through the official event portals.
