A 40-strong pro field from 14 nations will line up on the shores of the Mediterranean alongside over 500 age group athletes to take on the sixth edition of Challenge Salou. The 113km race in Costa Daurada, Spain, is scheduled for October 3, 2021.
The men’s field features New Zealander Kyle Smith; German uber biker, Frederik Funk; as well as Collin Chartier (USA), Pablo Dapena (ESP) and Thomas Davis (GBR).
The women’s race will see Lucy Hall (GBR), Sara Perez Sala (ESP), Emma Bilham (SUI), Lisa Norden (SWE) as well as up-and-coming Australian, Chloe Lane.
The town of Salou is located on the Costa Daurada (Golden Coast) coastline and is noted for its soft sand, sheltered coves and blue sea. Coupled with Spain’s Mediterranean climate, the coast’s palm tree-lined boulevard is also the setting for the transition, run course and finish line.
The inaugural Challenge Salou took place in May 2015, when at the time it became the only Challenge Family event on the Spanish peninsula.
Around 90km south-west of Barcelona, the male pro race starts at 08:00 CET with the female pro race at 8:15.
