New Covid variant delays Gran Fondo World Tour 2022 calendar presentation

The onset of the new Omicron Covid variant, which has triggered some international travel restrictions, has meant that the Gran Fondo World Tour (GFWT) has delayed the launch of its 2022 series.

Dani Buyo, CEO of Gran Fondo World Tour, gave some background via a recently issued statement to race organisers and partners…

‘Dear community members and organizers – despite the COVID-19 pandemic, GFWT has been able to continue with 2022 calendar set up, but now in front of this new Omicron wave we have decided to delay the calendar presentation to the middle of January 2022.

‘This gives all organizers additional weeks to understand how this new variant will impact international movement, if some event rescheduling will be needed and allow all of you to meet with us and use our resources to serve your participant community.

‘We are so proud to soon announce our new event family members that will expand our presence around the globe and introduce new interesting destinations – to host gravel and ultra-cycling distance events. We are now arriving at 25 events in more than 20 countries, and are still enlarging the community.

‘Meanwhile, our next challenge is offering you a full virtual experience and opening you the door to virtualize easily as part of your program, engaging virtual fans riding your event roads from international destinations from home.

‘Our mission to improve lives and cycling experiences is more relevant now than ever. I would like to sincerely thank our community members, customers and partners for staying focused during these times and for their continued collaboration. Together, we can make a difference.’
