Polar’s Year in Review 2025 data shows focus on structured training and heart rate tracking

Polar, the European-based sports tech company, has released its annual year-in-review data, ‘2025 Reflected’, which highlights trends in training, sleep, and activity among its users worldwide.

The analysis, which aggregated data from millions of workouts, indicates that Polar users are increasingly focused on structured training and long-term goal setting.

  • Running remained the top sport for Polar users in 2025, accounting for over 14% of all workouts recorded.
  • The day with the highest number of logged runs was April 27, 2025, which coincided with several major races across Europe and the US, including the London, Madrid, and Hamburg marathons.
  • Commitment to racing remains strong, with 52% of surveyed Polar users saying they plan to participate in an organised race next year.
  • Structured training is a key trend, with 59% of users reporting that they followed a formal plan to guide their workouts in 2025. Furthermore, 87% of Polar users tracked their heart rate during workouts to guide intensity, making it one of the most relied-upon metrics in the community.

Data from the Polar Flow web service revealed further key statistics:

  • The average weekly training time in 2025 was 301 minutes, which is double the amount recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • More than half of Polar users reported getting enough sleep, with an average duration of 7 hours and 26 minutes.
  • Running, walking, and strength training remained the most popular sports.
  • Polar users recorded more than 150 different types of activities.
  • The average marathon finishing time for Polar users was 4 hours and 12 minutes.
