Evans Cycles keeps Cambridge cycling with new store

Evans Cycles, ‘the UK’s leading specialist bike shop’, has announced the opening of its new Cambridge store in eastern England.

According to the retailer… ‘The new and improved store, relocated to the Grafton shopping centre, represents Evans Cycles’ continued commitment to maintaining a strong physical presence within the community and providing excellent face-to-face service to the region’s growing number of cyclists.’

The move to the new store in Cambridge, is part of a series of store openings for the retailer and follows hot-on-the-heels of new stores in Newcastle, Leicester and Birmingham.

With over 1,300 square feet, the new store will stock over 60 bikes for customers to see in person as well as the latest products from leading brands such as Pinnacle, Specialised, Brompton, GORE, Trek, FOX, and Endura. The store also comes complete with a fully equipped workshop, offering mechanical assistance and its signature 24 Hour Servicing pledge, as part of Evans Cycles’ commitment to getting customers back on the road as quickly as possible.

As well as experiencing the store’s new modern furnishings, customers will be able to access 0% Finance, Price Match, Free Click & Collect services from in-store. Customers will also be able to try out free test rides, and benefit from Evans Cycles’ Ride to Work Scheme.

As one of the leading UK cities for cycling, Cambridge sees one in three residents cycle to work on a regular basis. The new store opening comes at an opportune time – with Cambridge Council having recently applied to the Government’s £255 million Emergency Active Travel Fund, in order to make road changes across Cambridgeshire and encourage more people to take up travel on two wheels.

In line with all Evans Cycles shops, strict safety measures have been introduced in the new store including limiting how many customers can enter at any given time, marking out ‘2 metre zones’ throughout the shop floor and eradicating touch points within the payment process. In addition, it will also be mandatory for customers to wear a face-covering within the store.

As well as helping large numbers of the public now turning to two-wheeled transport, Evans Cycles have also provided hundreds of free bike MOTs to key workers throughout the pandemic. This service will continue at the new Cambridge store, meaning key workers can have their tyres pumped up, brakes adjusted and access expert mechanical advice free of charge.

Commenting on the opening of the new store, Matthew Atkinson, Head of Retail at Evans Cycles, said “It is fantastic to today announce the opening of our brand new Cambridge store, replacing the old site off Chesterton Road.

“As a predominantly bricks and mortar business, we strongly value the importance of offering our customers a face-to-face experience with our expert mechanics and sales staff – giving them an insight simply not possible online.”

He continued, “The team at Evans Cycles have worked hard to ensure that all of our stores are COVID-compliant, putting in place a number of measures to protect the safety of customers. As lockdown restrictions come into place once more, we understand the need for those who need to get to work, doing so in a safe manner on a bike which is reliable.

“We are proud to be able to offer our services as an essential retailer, and look forward to continuing to help the people of Cambridge – as one of the cycling hubs of the UK.”
