Centr, the official competition provider for HYROX, has unveiled a new engineered surface that is designed to offer consistency and performance to every HYROX event and training environment.
The Centr x HYROX Official Competition Perform Turf made its debut at the HYROX World Championships in Chicago, IL, on June 12, 2025, and will now be used across all HYROX races worldwide.
Centr, the health and wellness brand founded by Australian movie star Chris Hemsworth, became an official equipment provider of HYROX in 2023.
The Australian company notes that its new turf has been… ‘designed for hybrid fitness athletes, delivering reliable performance for sled pushes and pulls, and offering race-day-level friction in gyms, HYROX Training Clubs, and home setups.’
According to Centr, the 16mm pile was tested in over 200,000 durability cycles to ensure the same feel and resistance underfoot at every event.
“This is HYROX’s carbon-plated shoe moment,” said Andrew Sugerman, CEO of Centr. “Same sport. Same athletes. However, the playing field is now engineered for peak performance. The Official Competition Perform Turf will be a game-changer for the sport.”
Competition-grade surface
The modular turf system is part of a broader rollout by Centr and HYROX to standardise the athlete experience. From warm-ups to World Championship races, the goal is a uniform feel, no matter where an athlete competes or trains.
Washington, DC-based HYROX athlete Victor Purcell, who has competed in 18 races since 2021, said the new turf creates fairer conditions across the board. “The turf in the NYC warmup area felt balanced from end to end – no sticking or bunching, but also not so slick that sled pushes became too easy,” he said.
“I’m all about consistency and fairness, so I feel this turf is going to make the sport even better.”
Expansion into gyms and training centres
In tandem with the new turf launch, Centr and HYROX have begun installing the surface in HYROX Training Clubs and Performance Centers around the world. These facilities offer athletes the chance to train with the exact equipment used in races, including:

- Edge Bumper Plates and Perform Rig
Performance Centers, now launching in the US in partnership with Gold’s Gym, are designed to replicate race conditions… ‘providing geographic exclusivity and structured athlete programming.’
In the UK, 380 gyms now include Centr x HYROX gear, with over 5,800 individual pieces of equipment in use. Similar adoption is taking place across Europe and the US, marking a notable step in the sport’s infrastructure growth.
Centr notes that its certified training programs, available via the Centr App, support athletes from preparation to recovery. By training on the same equipment and surface as used in official HYROX races, athletes can focus on measurable & consistent performance gains in their preparation for race day.
