Garmin has released new software updates for several of its smartwatches, including the fenix 8, Venu X1, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, and Enduro 3. It also includes updates for its Edge 1050 cycling computers.
The updates, which are free for compatible devices, include features to help endurance athletes with training. For smartwatches, a new running tolerance feature can help athletes understand the impact of each run on their body and provides a recommended weekly maximum mileage.
Additionally, a new Garmin Triathlon Coach training plan is available in Garmin Connect. The plans adapt daily and send personalised workouts to compatible devices based on performance, recovery, and other health metrics.
Other updates for smartwatches include:
- Track run daily suggested workouts to maximise training with pace-based targets in track-friendly units.
- Running economy to measure overall energy efficiency after several runs using the HRM 600 heart rate monitor.
- A new smart wake alarm that uses gentle vibrations to help users wake up at an optimal time.
- An Evening Report that provides reminders about sleep needed and details on the following day’s workout, weather, and events.
For the Edge 1050 cycling computers, new features include:
- Timing gates, which can be set throughout a course to track split times.
- Improvements to Forksight mode for more detailed information about upcoming trail forks.
- Enduro and downhill ride profiles that automatically lap when a downhill run is completed.
- 5 Hz GPS recording to view trail lines in greater detail while in a descent.
To access the new features, Garmin customers can update their smartwatch or Edge device by enabling automatic updates from their device and syncing with Garmin Connect, or by using Garmin Express.
