IRONMAN has announced that the IRONMAN 70.3 St Pölten triathlon will return to its European racing schedule in 2027. The event, which was the first IRONMAN 70.3 to be hosted in Austria, previously ran for 13 editions between 2007 and 2019 before moving under the Challenge Family banner.
IRONMAN noted that the race is historically significant for the Austrian triathlon community, serving as a key early-season fixture and a developmental pathway toward the full-distance IRONMAN Kärnten-Klagenfurt. St Pölten joins a well-established Austrian circuit that includes the long-running Klagenfurt event and IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun.
IRONMAN officials confirmed it will collaborate with members of the current local organising team to maintain the race’s community ties while implementing the international standards associated with the brand.
Thomas Veje Olsen, Managing Director for IRONMAN Europe, Middle East, and Africa, said “Austria has been one of the anchor regions for IRONMAN in Europe and it has been a long-time ambition to give our Austrian triathlon community more opportunity to race with us.
“We are therefore excited to return to St Pölten, a region that is a big part of our history and one that has remained close to our hearts.”
Matthias Stadler, Mayor of St Pölten, said “The city of St Pölten has a rich history of triathlon with athletes from all over Austria and Europe choosing to race here including some of Europe’s best professional athletes over the years. We look forward to welcoming IRONMAN back to our beautiful city.”
The move comes as IRONMAN reports that demand for its events in Europe has reached record levels. According to the company, 23 IRONMAN 70.3 and 11 full-distance races across the continent have already sold out for the 2026 season.
Specific race dates and registration details for the 2027 edition are expected to be released in 2026.
