RaceNation x Trees Not Tees: sowing seeds on new sustainability initiative

RaceNation x Trees Not Tees

Event management and registration platform RaceNation has partnered with sustainability specialist Trees Not Tees to help event organisers reduce waste and restore biodiversity.

The partnership aims to tackle the issue of millions of race t-shirts being produced annually that may often go unworn, resulting in waste and ultimately ending up in landfill.

The new integration allows event organisers to offer participants the option to sponsor a tree instead of receiving an event t-shirt during the registration process.

Key statistics highlighted by Trees Not Tees (TNT) include:

  • 91% of trail runners say they would consider sponsoring a tree over receiving a race T-shirt.
  • 3.346 kgCO₂e of carbon is produced to create a single 150g polyester t-shirt.

Over 150,000 trees have already been sponsored through Trees Not Tees, on sites managed by the Future Forest Company in the UK.

Each sponsored tree is tracked on an event participant’s digital profile, showing the exact location of their tree and providing updates as the tree planting sites evolve over time.

A release from the two organisations added that, with RaceNation powering hundreds of thousands of registrations each year, the partnership has the potential to influence how the endurance industry approaches sustainability by making climate action part of the event experience.
