4iiii redesigns power meter battery enclosures for Reese’s Law compliance

4iiii Innovations has announced the transition to re-engineered integrated battery enclosures across its full range of power meters. This design update ensures ongoing compliance with Reese’s Law, a safety standard focused on battery enclosure security.

Reese’s Law was enacted in the United States in 2022, with full enforcement beginning in March 2024. The legislation was introduced to protect children from the risks associated with accidental ingestion of button and coin cell batteries. It mandates stringent safety requirements for the design of battery enclosures on consumer products sold in the US market.

Canadian technology brand 4iiii notes that it has proactively addressed these standards, having previously ensured its designs met similar strict battery safety regulations implemented in Australia in June 2022.

When Reese’s Law enforcement began, 4iiii initially deployed compliant battery clips. The company’s engineers have since developed a new integrated plastic design that removes the need for external clips while meeting international safety requirements, including upcoming European Union legislation.

The new design is featured on both drive-side and non-drive side power meter units. For retailers and distributors, this transition provides regulatory certainty for stocking and installing Precision 3+ and Precision 3+ Pro power meters internationally. All units have undergone third-party testing and certification through Intertek.

Phil White, Chief Executive Officer at 4iiii Innovations, said “At 4iiii, safety and relentless innovation are fundamental to everything we do. We don’t just engineer our products to meet regional regulations; we aim to set the global standard. This new integrated design proves that you don’t have to compromise on sleek aesthetics and high-performance to deliver industry-leading safety and peace of mind for our riders and partners worldwide.”

Based in Cochrane, Alberta, 4iiii Innovations is a sports technology company that produces power meters for the indoor and outdoor cycling markets. The brand’s equipment is used by both professional athletes and amateur cyclists.
