IRONMAN Pro Series debut in Sweden with 110+ pro athletes at IRONMAN Kalmar 2026

IRONMAN has confirmed the professional athlete start lists for IRONMAN Kalmar, taking place in the coastal city of Kalmar in southeastern Sweden on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Serving as the 13th stop on the Experience Oman IRONMAN Pro Series calendar, the event offers the final opportunity for professional athletes to secure qualification for the 2026 IRONMAN World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

The race will be broadcast live and free for international audiences across IRONMAN YouTube, ironman.com/proseries, and DAZN. Additional regional broadcasts and highlight coverage will feature on L’Équipe Live in France, ESPN (via Disney+), SuperSport, hr-Fernsehen, RTVE, iQIYI, and Outside TV.

The event features a 3.8km (2.4 miles) one-loop swim in the Baltic Sea, followed by a 180km (112 miles) single-loop bike course crossing the Öland bridge to the island of Öland. The course concludes with a 42.2km (26.2 miles) three-loop run passing through Kalmar’s city centre and the historical Västerport city wall, finishing adjacent to Kalmar Cathedral.

In the women’s professional field, reigning champion Katrine Christensen of Denmark headlines the start list wearing bib number one. Christensen won the 2025 edition in 08:27:49, following a second-place finish in 2024. Her 2026 season includes podium finishes at the IRONMAN Hamburg European Championship, ISUZU IRONMAN South Africa African Championship, and IRONMAN 70.3 Elsinore.

Germany’s Laura Philipp, the 2024 IRONMAN World Champion, enters as a key contender. Philipp and Christensen previously raced against each other at Hamburg, where Philipp used her marathon performance to move into second place ahead of Christensen. Philipp’s season also includes a third-place finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Aix-en-Provence.

Swedish athlete Sara Svensk leads local entries, following a sixth-place result at the Memorial Hermann IRONMAN Texas North American Championship earlier this year and a top-10 finish at the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona.

The US field includes Jackie Hering, winner of IRONMAN 70.3 Dallas-Little Elm and third-place finisher at IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga, alongside Rachel Zilinskas, who comes off a third-place finish at Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid.

Germany’s representation features Franziska Hofmann, the reigning IRONMAN Wales champion, alongside Leonie Konczalla, Johanna Ahrens, and Jenny Jendryschik. The race presents a final qualification opportunity for Kona for athletes including Konczalla, Jendryschik, Rebecca Clarke (NZL), and Jeanne Collonge (FRA).

The men’s field features over 70 professional athletes. US competitors Matthew Marquardt and Trevor Foley lead the entries following their participation at Athletic Brewing IRONMAN Lake Placid, as both aim to gain points in the overall IRONMAN Pro Series standings.

Germany’s Jonas Schomburg and French Olympian Pierre Le Corre are expected to drive the early pace. Le Corre placed second on his long-distance triathlon debut in New Zealand earlier this year.

Run specialists Matt Hanson (USA) and Antonio Benito Lopez (ESP) are also in contention, while Germany’s Finn Große-Freese and Jonas Hoffmann, alongside Finland’s Henrik Goesch, enter the race targeting remaining World Championship qualification spots.

Swedish athlete Jesper Svensson leads local entry in the men’s race, following three top-10 finishes at IRONMAN events in 2025, including third place at IRONMAN Copenhagen.
