Tracking finisher numbers for IRONMAN 70.3 events in the USA this year, there is a positive momentum in participation – with total finisher numbers reaching 31,553.
According to analysis by Thom Richmond at Cal Tri Events, overall finisher counts grew by 8.0% year-on-year across all races in the USA, up from 29,029 in 2025.
When assessing returning events, finisher numbers increased 7.3% year-on-year, rising to 26,985 versus 25,024. This is across 17 repeat races. When including new events, total finishers are up 8.0%.
For returning events, growth was registered across 12 of the 17 returning races, led by significant gains at IRONMAN 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley (+47%), IRONMAN 70.3 Musselman (+34%), and IRONMAN 70.3 Muncie (+25%).
Additional gains were posted at IRONMAN 70.3 Gulf Coast (+24%), IRONMAN 70.3 Hawaii (+24%), IRONMAN 70.3 Ohio (+20%), IRONMAN 70.3 Eagleman (+19%), IRONMAN 70.3 Western Massachusetts (+18%), IRONMAN 70.3 Maine (+11%), IRONMAN 70.3 Oregon (+9%), IRONMAN 70.3 Oceanside (+8%), and IRONMAN 70.3 Coeur d’Alene (+5%).
Five returning events experienced a decline in finisher numbers: IRONMAN 70.3 Rockford (-1%), IRONMAN 70.3 Texas (-8%), IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga (-11%), IRONMAN 70.3 Boulder (-13%), and IRONMAN 70.3 Boise (-20%).
Four new additions to the domestic calendar – Ruidoso, Northern California, Omaha, and Dallas-Little Elm – contributed 4,568 total finishers. However, participation at new venues lagged behind established options, averaging 1,142 finishers per event compared to the average of 1,588 finishers recorded across returning races.

Wrapping up this year’s international IRONMAN 70.3 series, the 2026 Precision Fuel & Hydration IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship is taking place in Nice, France. The event is being held across two days, with the women’s world championship set for Saturday, September 12, 2026, and the men’s race following on Sunday, September 13, 2026.
