Challenge Fortaleza makes its return this coming weekend as the Brazilian host city marks 300 years since officially acquiring city status.
The event on August 30, 2026 features white sandy beaches, local Brazilian cuisine, and regional tourist attractions. The tricentennial celebrations, commemorating Fortaleza’s evolution from a coastal settlement in 1726 to Brazil’s fourth-largest metropolis, coincide with the race weekend. Organisers expect more than 3,000 athletes, alongside spectators and media, to attend the event in northeastern Brazil.
In the men’s elite field, Brazilian athlete Fernando Toldi enters as the primary favourite. Ranked 98th on the PTO World Ranking, Toldi has secured a victory, two podium finishes, and a fourth-place result this season. Fellow Brazilian Lukas Cabral will also compete on home soil. International contenders in the men’s race include Spain’s Andrés Cendán Llorens and Portugal’s Alexandre Miguel Bernardino Nobre.
In the women’s race, local contender Mikelle Coelho carries home hopes as the sole Brazilian elite entrant. The international field features Spain’s Ana Maria Santiso Prado, Argentina’s Romina Biagioli, and Elizabeth Nyitray of the United States.
