Elastic Interface presents AURA N3X FL, its first foamless pad

Elastic Interface unveiled AURA N3X FL, billed as ‘the first foamless pad for cycling shorts’, at the Performance Days event in Munich. The Italian brand, which specialises in technical comfort solutions, indicates that this new product marks a new chapter in its technological development.

The AURA N3X FL is based on N3X technology, which originally introduced 3D printing to cycling pads. The new pad model completely eliminates polyurethane foam and laminations. Instead, it adopts a structure that exclusively includes 3D-printed details and technical textile materials.

AURA N3X FL is an Italian patent-pending design that complements the foam-based solutions already found in the Elastic Interface range. The foamless design is intended to offer advanced control of elastic response, efficient pressure distribution, and greater breathability.

According to the company, the pad is designed for long rides and high-intensity endurance competitions. It aims to provide constant support and advanced microclimate management throughout a ride.

The product combines certain integrated technical elements:

  • 3D-printed details with variable geometries to adjust support, elasticity, and airflow.
  • Eco AirTech, a material developed by Elastic Interface to enhance breathability and fast drying properties.

Integrating these elements reduces the number of materials used and is intended to optimise the pad’s dynamic response while cycling. This contributes to more predictable and controlled performance over time.

The foamless design also addresses sustainability. By using 3D printing, the company can produce details without creating scraps. The absence of laminations also limits the use of glue and additional materials, while the increased durability is expected to extend the pad’s life cycle.

For the cyclist, the foamless structure decreases the total weight of the pad and increases mobility. The design is engineered to facilitate airflow and rapid humidity disposal, which are considered key elements for maintaining performance levels in endurance disciplines.

Elastic Interface, based in San Vendemiano, Italy, is an ‘ingredient brand’ that specialises in sustainable padding solutions. Founded in 2000, it is the inventor of the first elastic chamois pad for cycling apparel and currently operates in more than 40 countries.
